Coming soon

Your whole month,
one click from the menu bar.

Click the date at the top of your screen: the month unfurls, today’s meetings sit underneath, and the Join button is right on the row. Click away and it’s gone.

One click in

The link is never where you expect it.

It’s four lines down a wall of dial-in numbers and meeting IDs, and you’re hunting for it while everyone waits. Awning reads the URL field, the location and the notes, finds the link wherever it ended up, and puts a Join button on the row.

Zoom, Teams, Google Meet, Webex — whatever the invitation actually points to. Or skip the panel entirely and join your next meeting from any app at all.

Quick entry

Type it the way you’d say it.

Press N from anywhere and the new event pane opens. Type lunch with Dana Friday 1pm and it’s read as you go — the day, the time and the place fill in beside you.

Fix anything it got wrong, add a repeat or an alert, and you’re done without ever leaving the panel.

Place suggestions come from Apple’s map service, the same one Maps and Calendar use — and Awning offers them rather than assuming. It is the only time the app touches the network.

Everything else it does.

Light and dark, properly

Not a filter over a light design. The panel is built on the same materials macOS uses, so it sits on your desktop rather than on top of it.

Your keyboard

Show the panel, join your next meeting, start a new event. Rebind any of them.

Calendars, grouped by account

It starts with the calendars you can write to and hides holiday feeds and meeting rooms, so a work account can’t bury your day.

Repeats, alerts, delete

The things you actually do to an event, without opening anything.

Remembers your size

Per display — because a laptop screen and a 6K monitor don’t want the same one.

There is nowhere for your data to go.

No analytics. No crash reporting. No accounts, no server. Your calendar is read from your Mac and displayed on your Mac, and that is the whole journey.

The only time Awning touches the network at all is while you’re typing a location, when it asks Apple’s map service for matches. If you never type a location, it never connects to anything.

Worth saying plainly: macOS has no read-only level of calendar permission. Full access is the only one that exists, which is why an app that mostly reads still has to ask for all of it.

Read the privacy policy — and this page doesn’t track you either: no analytics, no cookies, not even a webfont.

Why not just…

Calendar.app?
Awning doesn’t replace it — it reads the same calendars. It’s for the forty times a day you want the answer without the window.
The Notification Centre widget?
Two gestures and a full-height sidebar to see next Tuesday. Awning is one click, and gone.
Itsycal?
Free, and good — it’s why this category exists. Awning adds joining, event creation, the two-month drag, and a lot of design.
Fantastical?
Much bigger, and much better at being big. If you want a full calendar client with templates and proposals, buy it. Awning is a dollar and does one thing.

Made by Keegan Lanier

I built Awning because I was bummed Apple never put a calendar in the menu bar. The date sits right there at the top of the screen and clicking it does nothing — so I made it do something. See what else I’ve built →

One minute, from me: what Awning does, and what it doesn’t.

What it doesn’t do yet

Editing an existing event opens Calendar — full in-panel editing is coming in 1.1. Awning needs macOS 26 or later. It’s a menu bar app, so it has no Dock icon and no window.

Click the date. That’s the whole thing.
